Tf2's Families
Lore Families...
Warning: Some links are to the Team Fortress Two comics, a series showcasing the lives of the mercenaries and other characters of the TF2 universe. If you are not interested in reading "blood-soaked, adrenaline-gorged orgies of picture violence," even though SAXTON HALE himself said they'll "distract kids of all ages," it may not be the best idea to click the links.
-this warning was required to be put down and makes Saxton Hale sad-
Team Fortress Two may not have a story mode, but it has a good bit of lore. This lore is released through the comic series created by Valve, the company that made Team Fortress Two. Amongst this lore are the families of some of the characters, and just like our families, they're all trying to get better.
The best and first example of the families of Team Fortress Two is the family that started it all: the Mann family...
The Mann family, at first, primarily consisted of two brothers, Redmond Mann and Blutarch Mann, and their father, Zepheniah Mann. The brothers competed over everything, enraging Zephaniah and even causing his death. The two convinced him to buy most of New Mexico, which, at the time, was a desert wasteland. Thus, Zepheniah gave 50 percent of the land to each of his sons in his will, having them fight over the other's half as punishment.
Definitely not the "nuclear family" people aspire to be, but what's the beauty in consistency? If it wasn't for these two bickering brothers, we wouldn't have the Team Fortress mercenaries that everyone that knows them loves, as well as input into their families as well.
For example, Heavy's family (family portrait shown at top of post) is a single-parent Russian family that, in the premisses of this comic introducing them: https://www.teamfortress.com/tf03_cold_day_in_hell/, are living in the siberian tundra. A true family-life-course, this one, for the environment and murder of the male parent made it so the children had to stay home for their lives, except one, of course. The objective of this family is staying alive, and they are perfect at it, but as the Conflict Theory states, every family has conflict. You want to know what Heavy's family's conflicts are? Well, looks like your going to have to read the comic linked in this paragraph. ;)
In conclusion for this post, the families of the mercenaries, and even the other characters of the Team Fortress Two universe, may have different stories, but similar themes to ours. Family is family, siblings are siblings, and if you never tick off your parents, everyone's going to want to know your secrete.
