Tf2's Races and Ethnicities
No, not the races of the characters...
Team Fortress Two's diverse population can almost be summarized into different races and ethnicities thrown together into a type of salad bowl that real life America wishes it could achieve. It's why I won't get into minority groups in this post, because there's so many! That's what a multiplayer game is: a bunch of minority groups put together to do things. By diverse population, I mean the different styles of play, such as the hoovy or anger-sniper. I guess that would make most of what I am conversing in this blog post more like ethnicities, if my knowledge is correct, but there is one thing I can go into races about.
Team Fortress Two has nine playable classes: the Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy. Technically, one could say these are the "races" of the Team Fortress Two community. You could be a demoknight, sticky spammer, scrumpy swallower, but you're still a demoman. You could be a noob-vaccinator-medic or a battle medic, but you're still a medic. There can even be some technical racism in the fact that some anger snipers wine about how to scout is so fast that they can't hit their shots, or engineer players completely disrespecting spies, but this is a video game, which means the taking the "racism" has quite the few options on stopping it, one of which is muting the ones giving it, so people disrespecting other classes is not talked about much, because no one really cares. In fact, calling it racism is pretty much an exaggeration, except for things like bots and more specific things like lime scout.
That brings me into my next topic: the technical ethnicities. Just as each race has its ethnicities in real life, each class in Team Fortress Two has their own subclasses/stereotypes/playstyles. As I said before, TF2 has things like the demoknight: a demoman that has, at least, a melee weapon and a shield and goes around beating/slicing everyone to death, a sticky spammer: a demoman that only uses his stickies as a both offensive and defencive weapon, completely disregarding the grenade launcher until he runs out of stickies, and the battle medic: a medic that has almost no regard for healing his team and just tries to get kills with his primary and melee weapons.
Ironically, the wealth of each of these ethnicities can vary where the richer is the less fortunate. For example, the SMG for the Sniper class's secondary slot is thought to be useless by probably most of the playerbase, yet there is an australium version of it, meaning there is a type of sniper player that the community calls, the "I finally got an australium, and its was an SMG" sniper. The stereotype with these players is that they are only going to use the SMG, and not his melee or sniper rifle weapons, because he/she is ticked off. Of course, if you get an australium eyelander, you're going to go get drinks with the guys, because you're about to become the highlight of the servers you're in.
If you wish see more details on the different "ethnicities" of the game, I recommend you watch youtuber SoundSmith's stereotype videos.
Remember: they are called stereotypes for a reason. There will always be exceptions, which is why comparing the ethnic system of a video game with the ethnic system of a real life society can be pretty indiscriptive.
Team fortress Two's diverse community allows different "races" and "ethnicities" to form, all of which, at least somewhat, work together to create a thriving community; except the bots. No one likes aimbotters. Please don't use aimbots. It's not fun, funny, or ethical.
