Tf2's Culture
Team Fortress Two has a society that is just like ours. Well, sort of...
Team Fortress Two has a fan base in what I can safely assume, at least at some point in its history, to be in the millions. The Team Fortress Two's player / fan base is a society all on its own, with individual cultures plastered throughout it. There are material cultures, cultures that associate with objects, such as the long forgotten Observer Spys, who require a specific set of cosmetics and secondary weapon to even be recognised. There are nonmaterial cultures, cultures that associate with thought process, such as the much more common friendly, which requires the mindset of a pacifist. Cultural universals, or things different cultures have in common, I would say are rare. With the wide range of weapons and cosmetics, including emotes, there are so many different ways of expressing yourself in this glorious game.
On the other hand, there are guidelines that the entirety of the Team Fortress Two community has created. For example, to kill a friendly is pretty scummy, especially if the way you kill them isn't funny, but if one was act like a friendly to lure people in, that person will be very quickly despised. Luckly, I haven't seen much of that at all in the time I played the game, in which I still do.
There is one thing, though: the Conflict Theory (also known as the Conflict View), procured by the man himself, Karl Marx. The Conflict View states that there will always be conflict of some sort. If Team Fortress Two was the real world, this theory would be a fact. There is always that one guy that doesn't want anything to do with whatever's going on, or the noob that doesn't know what frieldlies are in the first place. There hopefully not there in the beginning, but at some point, they'll show up and ruin everything. Either that, or they'll get murdered and change nothing.
The Team Fortress Two society is strong, diverse, and doesn't have as many culture shocks as you may think after reading this post. I assure you that an open mind is recommended when playing this, because you never know when someone ragdolls into the basketball hoop in Sawmill.
